Photographic Product Rendering
In late 2019 we received a request to retouch a new product that was about to be launched but the marketing side has been kept aside. Although retouching the images was possible as they were shot inside a lightbox there wasn’t much hope in getting them at the quality level intended.
The client had two options at this stage, hire a professional photographer, and we’d retouch the product images at the highest standards, or we’d create the product in 3D and make it as real as possible.
They opted for the latter as the total cost of creating the image and rendering it would cost less than a professional photography session.
Our CGI artist Emre started working on the files once we have the photos of the lens taken from various angles plus technical drawings. Snowlenz is a different product and one of its kind as it has an integrated action camera enabling you to record what you see. At the same time, you’re skiing; it has buttons on the side that lets you control the camera easily.
Although the first draft render was entirely satisfactory, there were a couple of issues that required us to work on a few times. The first one was the straps as they are an elastic material that had different texture at both sides where the inner part had a silicone material to make sure it doesn’t slip easily. The second issue and the one that we had to work over and over again was the front color of the lens. The glass due to the material structure was glossy and took a different color depending on the angle, and replicating the tones has been a real challenge for us.
