Meet raki, otherwise known as Lion's Milk -the Turkish national drink made of twice-distilled grapes and aniseed. Raki is a serious business in Turkey. It's the go-to spirit for celebrating a promotion or a birthday or for muting the pain of a job loss or the end of a relationship.

Out of there, we move to Mey. Established in 2004 after the privatization of Tekel's alcoholic drinks division, Mey operates as two separate companies in Turkey, one involved in the manufacture and the other responsible for sales and marketing. Mey's product portfolio includes a wide variety of various raki brands, some of which are Yeni Raki, Tekirdağ Raki, some vodka brands such as İstanblue and Binboa as well as wines Kayra, Terra and Buzbağ.

Out of various raki brands while some are for mid-range there are few that can be considered premium. Kulüp Rakı is such a brand and one special edition we photographed with Diapolis Images is probably the most premium raki bottle produced as of 2020.

Mey is a subsidiary of Diageo, a leading producer of distilled alcoholic drinks, beer and wine brands, such as Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, J&B, Windsor, Buchanan's whiskeys, Smirnoff, Ciroc, and Ketel One vodkas, as well as Baileys, Captain Morgan, Don Julio, and Tanqueray.

The ad agency Eyedea, a long time client of ours, provided a brief to show this premium brand in non-saturated and down to earth backgrounds. The images were shot according to the mood board and preselected backgrounds by the agency, while one scene is created in-studio without any background.

Shooting bottles is a tricky subject, and facades and other design elements make it more complicated. The best tactic is to create a light for a specific part of the bottle and move on from there. The rest is combining all these parts at the post-production stage and create the perfect bottle. As bottles are semi-transparent and sometimes fully transparent but they distort the visual at the back necessary actions should be thought of before going into post-production. Approximately 10 to 15 images are combined per scene to create the perfect bottle photo following the cleanup process as glass has a lot of imperfections when shot with high resolution cameras.
